The history of Mas du Roulier
The Mas du Roulier is the story of Nicolas and his family.
My family had a small transportation business for the cutlery industry of Thiers, since the 17th century. 250 years of history, from father to son, until my grandfather. He built a house on the French Riviera in La Croix Valmer. Unable to find a name for it, a cousin told him he was a “roulier” (meaning those who are “rolling” as the boss of this small family business) and that he should call the house in Var “Le Mas du Roulier”. And so it was done !
We sold this house, giving me a lot of sadness, in 2020 during the Covid pandemic. It was the only place where I truly felt at home and I was deeply attached to it. The view was stunning, with a magical 180° view of the sea over the bay of Cavalaire, right next to Saint-Tropez.
When I embarked on entirely renovating this new house, the idea was to make it as the new “Mas du Roulier”, also with a magical view. The house got the benefit of the famous architect Philippe Tallien, as star of Saint-Tropez in the 70’. He left his mark on the house by bringing elegance and volume and to magnify the magical environment.
A house facing the sea of clouds with montain background and with an even more magical view than the one facing the sea. This is an authentic Provençal Villa in Auvergne and this is a unique case !
The spirit of the place is to be a stylish family home, a house for getting pleasure and happiness where absolutely nothing is missing for an exceptional stay. Absolute comfort, a magnificent natural setting with plenty of space (7 hectares of land with no neighbors in front for several kilometers).
I have designed it and furnished it to avoid the frustration of what I felt in all the places where I stayed: something was always missing and the beds were often uncomfortable. So I chosed to integrate everything that can provide the best possible comfort: a plethora of equipment, incredibly comfortable bedding, exceptional thermal insulation, a huge space for very large groups of up to 22 people facing one of the most beautiful view of the world.
Welcome to my home!
